FAQ Page - Passive Fiber Products

When using passive fiber optic products, there are several important points to consider in order to ensure smooth functionality in your fiber optic cabling with switch, storage, security and/or server systems. Please check the following points carefully before making a complaint in order to avoid a rejection of your RMA (Return Material Authorization) case and possible costs for you:

Are you using the correct optical fiber?

Depending on which cabling you are planning or which cabling is used in your network, it is essential to connect multimode with multimode and single-mode with cables. Due to a different core diameter, for example, the direct connection of single-mode (core diameter of 9/125μm) with multimode cables (62.5/125μm for OM1 and 50/125μm for OM2, OM3, OM4 and OM5) is not possible. OM1 cables are also not compatible with OM2, OM3, OM4 or OM5, which in turn are downward compatible with the other multimode fibers. Please check if your hardware (switch, transceiver, etc.) supports the respective cable type by consulting the corresponding data sheet.

The Fiber Optic product is connected, but no link is established?

Often, even in the cleanest of environments, tiny particles of dirt in the air can get onto lasers of optical transceivers, sockets, couplings or plug contacts of fiber optic patch cables and limit or even completely block the penetration of the light signal. Therefore, clean the socket of the module or patch field and the fiber optic connector you want to insert and try again if the connection is now established. Before each use and with each plugging process, plugs and sockets or fiber optic transceiver ports should be cleaned with an appropriate cleaning tool. CBO offers different versions of One-Click cleaners, you can find them here.

Did you pay attention to the correct polarity when connecting the fiber optic cables?

If a cable with the wrong polarity is connected, no link will be established. When connecting fiber optic links to each other or when connecting transceivers to patch panels, make sure that you always use a fiber optic cable to get from the sending to the receiving side and vice versa..

Is this article a CBO product?

Fiber optic cables often look identical from the outside, so that the respective manufacturer is difficult or impossible for laypersons to identify directly. Before making a complaint, please check carefully whether you have actually purchased the product from CBO or a CBO Reseller by consulting the delivery note, the order confirmation or the invoice.

Can a defect in other components of the network be excluded?

In some cases, a defective hardware port is the reason for a non-functioning fiber optic product. Please check if the error occurs with all ports or with a new cable that has been tested as working.

If you have purchased several products, do all products have the same error?

In order to exclude the possibility that an error only occurs with one product and all other products are functional, please check all products carefully for their function.

Did you purchase the product directly from CBO?

If you have not purchased the product from CBO, please contact your BlueOptics reseller or distributor directly. CBO will not be able to process your RMA request in this case.
