Cable Television systems offer support for multiple services including on-demand entertainment, broadcast television, and internet access. CATV services are generally supplied via an optical fiber network to an optical node which switches the electrical signal to the subscriber through a coaxial cable connection.

Most Cable Television applications utilize both multimode and single mode signals within different areas of the network. SMF is used for connectivity between the central office and optical node where it is transformed to multimode.
