CBO Launches OM5 Multimode Fiber Optic Cable Series for High-Speed Data Center Applications

OM5 Fiber is the next generation solution that supports short wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) which results in a reduction of the parallel fiber count by a factor of four at least, claims the CBO - a preferred manufacturer of networking hi-tech networking products.

According to the manufacturer, “OM5 fiber cable is fully optimized for SWDM and supports at least four wavelengths in the 850nm to 950nm range. This enables for the utilization of only two fibers (instead of eight) for transmitting 40 Gbs and 100 Gbps Ethernet. Therefore, a reduction in fiber count can be achieved for higher speed applications.”

“To address the increasing demand for high-speed data, video and voice traffic and the need to reduce the number of connectors and cables used in today`s extensively crowded data centers, our OM5 cables offer the perfect solution,” said Jen, Technical manager at CBO."

CBO now stocks universal grade OM5 cable in various designations (based on fiber count and length). The OM5 breakout cables are offered with user-selectable connectors (LC-APC, LC-UPC, SC-APC, SC-UPC, and ST-PC). Moreover, OM5 cables with the following connector combinations are also available in different sizes; LC-LC, LC-SC, LC-ST, SC-SC, ST-ST, SC-ST. Besides this, customized OM5 cable assemblies are also available upon request.
